Police say children should have cycling proficiency training |
A number of children have been treated in Jersey General Hospital after being injured by cars in the island. Jersey Police say more children and cyclists are out on the roads during the lighter summer evenings.
Drivers are being urged to be aware of children crossing the road, and to slow down at schools and play facilities.
Philip Blake, Jersey's road safety officer, says children's perception of speed and distance is not fully developed until they are about 10.
He is also asking parents to make sure their children know the Green Cross Code, and, if they are cycling, to make sure they have had cycling proficiency training.
