Safeway: Now part of CI Traders |
The company which took over Safeway in Jersey and Guernsey says criticism of the move will not affect its business. CI Traders took over Safeway in the islands in April, a day before a new competition law started in Jersey.
Since then some customers have boycotted the supermarket in protest over the takeover and the perceived lack of choice in island supermarkets.
The company told shareholders that trading was difficult, but turnover was up 11.3% on this time last year.
Chief Executive Martin Bralsford said the island's authorities and media had reacted negatively to CI Traders buying the Safeway store.
But he insisted concerns were unfounded and would not affect business in the medium and long term.
