Carrefour executives will visit the island in the autumn |
France's biggest supermarket chain has postponed two presentations in Jersey in which it would have explained its plans to open a store in the island. Carrefour wanted to show people what it had to offer and convince politicians it could be a viable operator alongside CI Traders and the Co-Op.
But the French chain has now postponed its consultation until the autumn.
Managers say the work needed to help prepare for a public presentation in Jersey was greater than they expected.
'Extra choice'
They wanted to be fully prepared before they announced any proposals in what they considered to be a completely new market outside their home nation.
Calls for another supermarket chain to open in Jersey have grown since the takeover of Safeway by CI traders.
Local businessman Sean Power has been involved in trying to bring a French operator here for months.
Mr Power says a French supermarket could mean a lot more choice for shoppers.
The presentations had been scheduled to be held on Wednesday at Communicare and at the Town Hall on Thursday.
