A five-year plan for the future of Jersey has been approved by 35 votes to 10 after a lengthy debate in the States. The States began where it had left off last week, discussing Deputy Geoff Southern's Strategic Plan amendment.
He was concerned about plans to expand the economy, and an increase in the number of people working in the island.
His amendment was defeated, unlike Senator Paul Routier's about more provision for people with disabilities.
Despite opposition from Deputies Southern and Guy de Faye, and Senator Ted Vibert in particular, the amended plan was finally approved.
That means Policy and Resources can start to implement the scheme, which aims to make sure the people of Jersey enjoy a good quality of life in a pleasant environment.
