Companies watchdog loses chairman
The organisation which makes sure there is enough competition between major companies in Jersey has been left without a chairman.

An audit by the Economic Development Committee found significant weaknesses, so the previous chairman, Dr Patrick McNutt, has not been reappointed.

The Competition and Regulatory authority regulates business competition in Jersey.

A candidate for chairman is expected to be proposed next month.

Competition law

Jersey's States members will meet again on Wednesday following a shortened debate on Tuesday due to the Royal visit by Prince Charles.

If approved, a new competition law will prevent companies making agreements which restrict competition.

A strategic plan is also scheduled for debate. This sets out objectives to be achieved by the year 2010, including population and environmental issues.

Some items of business could be held over until next week.
