Mediation scheme is set to expand
The introduction of mediation to Jersey's court system has taken another step forward.

People with disputes which would normally go to trial in the Royal Court can now opt for an alternative.

Mediation has already proved a success in Jersey's Petty Debts Court, where over two thirds of cases are now solved before they go to trial.

It is hoped that success can be mirrored in the Royal Court with judges allowed to refer parties to mediation.

In other places where alternative dispute resolution has been introduced, legal costs have been cut and those involved have indicated a greater satisfaction with the outcome.

Financial disputes are believed to be most suited to dispute resolution, particularly those concerning debts and divorce settlements.
