A new bishop has been appointed to the Anglican diocese which includes Guernsey and Jersey. The Reverend Canon Paul Butler will be the next Suffragan Bishop of Southampton in the Diocese of Winchester.
His duties will include regular visits to the island to officiate at services and church events.
He succeeds The Right Reverend Jonathan Gledhill, who became the Bishop of Lichfield last November.
Canon Butler is currently team Rector of Walthamstow, Area Dean of Waltham Forest in the Diocese of Chelmsford and a non-residentiary canon of St Paul's Cathedral in Rwanda.
Canon Butler will work alongside the Bishop of Winchester, the Right Reverend Michael Scott-Joynt and the Bishop of Basingstoke, the Right Reverend Trevor Wilmott.
He will be consecrated on 24 June at Southwark Cathedral by the Archbishop of Canterbury and a service of welcome will be held for him at Winchester Cathedral on 4 July.
