Building experts will be discussing techniques used in repairing and refurbishing Jersey's granite buildings next week. The two-day conference run by the Planning and Environment Department will be held at Hamptonne House.
To many islanders and visitors, the traditional granite farmhouse defines the character of the island.
But they present challenges to their owners or anyone else planning to repair or improve them.
There are several thousand granite buildings in Jersey and although most are protected there are a large number that need to be repair or a new use found for them if they are to survive.
Those taking part in the conference will be told the best ways of modernising and refurbishing granite buildings.
Experts attending include Brian Morton who has been involved with Westminster Abbey and Canterbury Cathedral. He will be speaking about work at a Georgian Townhouse in St Helier.
The work at Jersey's Mont Orgueil Castle will also be discussed.
