Both forces have different procedures for some of their work

The forces have been discussing how to improve joint working practices.

Matters came to a head when Honorary officers said they would boycott the next peacekeeping operation in St Helier.

That has now been resolved and both forces will work together in the next Operation Focus initiative.

Jersey's Honorary police are unpaid volunteers and act as a kind of parish police commission and neighbourhood watch.

Problems arose when the Honorary force complained it was not being informed about changes to working practices by the States force.

Those changes involved new human rights laws and data protection rules.

The two forces also had different radio procedures.

Chief Police Officer Graham Power has been holding meetings with Geoff Cornwall, President of the Centeniers' Association.

They are close to signing a memorandum setting out how they will work together in future.
