The right of Jersey politicians to bring no confidence votes in fellow Assembly members could be enshrined in law under new proposals. Senator Stuart Syvret claims votes of no confidence have been scrapped under a new-style government administration which is due to come into being next year.
In proposals before the States, he is asking for the Assembly to have the power to debate votes of no confidence in the chief minister, and, or individual members.
He said: "Satisfactory checks and balances should remain in place for the island's parliament to hold the policy-makers to account.
"But this safeguard has been abandoned."
