 Members will be able to claim �29,000 income support |
Jersey's politicians have voted to abolish means tests for income support, which means they will be able to claim about �29,000 a year, plus �9,000 in expenses. Many States members say the timing of the debate was bad, coming a week before the island's budget is discussed.
But, essentially, Jersey's politicians have agreed that serving the people deserves a full-time salary.
Regardless of background and income from others sources, members will be able to claim �29,000 of income support.
States members have also approved the amount people on a pay review panel will be paid. They have agreed a figure of �20 a day.
The independent review panel will make recommendations for politicians pay for 2005.
