Governor sought for island jail
The new jail at Jurby
It is hoped the new governor will supervise the relocation of prisoners
Suitable candidates are being sought for the role of prison governor at the Isle of Man's new jail in Jurby.

The post, which comes with a salary of up to 77,000, is being advertised following the retirement of Acting Prison Governor Tony Hawkes.

The new governor will be overall manager of the Isle of Man Prison and will be principal advisor on all penal matters on the island.

The closing date for job applications is 17 December.

Home Affairs Minister Martyn Quayle MHK said: "The selection of a new Prison Governor is a key appointment at a time of great change in the penal structure of the Isle of Man.

"The modern facilities being provided at Jurby will take the island into a new era and the prison governor will have the opportunity to lead the service through this exciting period of development."

The new 41.7m prison, which is currently the Isle of Man Government's largest capital project, has a maximum of 138 cells compared with 92 places at Victoria Road.

It is hoped the new governor will be in place in time to supervise the relocation of prisoners to Jurby, scheduled for spring 2008.
