Minister wants surgery relocation
Health Minister Eddie Teare has called for a new GP surgery in the North West of the island to be built in Jurby.

The Department of Health has already put forward plans to close the surgery in Michael due to lack of demand and build another in Jurby.

Mr Teare says it makes economic sense to site it near Jurby jail after a prison report said healthcare for inmates at Douglas jail was inadequate.

However, Michael's commissioners says the village needs its own surgery.

Earlier this week the board of commissioners wrote to the Chief Minister, Tony Brown, claiming the village needed to retain its medical facility.

Mr Teare said: "One of the other concerns is that we could - if we went ahead with the new surgery in Kirk Michael - be forced to replicate the facility in Jurby for the prison."
