Calls for village surgery to stay
A group of Manx villagers are hoping to persuade the island's government to let them retain their local GP surgery.

Michael's board of commissioners have written to the Chief Minister Tony Brown to try to persuade him the village needs its own doctor's surgery.

The Department of Health and Social Security (DHSS) wants the surgery moved to Jurby because of a lack of demand.

However Brian Corlett, chair of Michael's board, claims the village needs to retain the medical facility.

He is hoping the letter will put more pressure on the DHSS to change its mind.

Mr Corlett said: "I would hope the chief minister and the minister of health will look very carefully at this letter and will consider it very carefully - for the benefit of the people of Michael and the north west of the island in general."
