Sir Norman Wisdom celebrated his 90th birthday in February
A woman has been arrested over the alleged theft of two cheques which had been sent to the household of Sir Norman Wisdom.

The veteran comic, who celebrated his 90th birthday in February, lives in Ramsey on the Isle of Man.

Sylvia Evans, who was released by Ramsey police on Friday, denies the allegations made against her, solicitor Alison Riley said.

The island's police force said she had been released on police bail.

Allegations denied

Ms Riley said: "Sylvia Evans was released by Ramsey Police on Friday evening without charge.

"She denies the allegations made against her and will vigorously defend her position. She has fully cooperated with the police."

Sir Norman was knighted in 2001 and celebrated his 90th birthday on 4 February.

He won a Bafta for his performance as a terminally ill cancer patient in the 1978 play, Going Gently.
