Manx harbour traffic 'improving'
Port of Douglas
Vehicle numbers increased last month
The amount of traffic going through the Isle of Man's main Douglas port is showing signs of improvement, the island's director of harbours says.

In June, the number of passengers was down 16.9% on the previous year and the numbers of cars and motorbikes through the harbour dropped by 3%.

But in July, there was only a 3.7% increase in traffic, and 4.6% decrease on passenger numbers from 2004.

Last month, 81,421 people and 18, 915 vehicles passed through the harbour.

Director of Harbours, Captain Michael Brew, said: "After a number of disappointing months for passenger traffic, July 2005 figures contain a positive sign, with a 3.7% increase in vehicle traffic."

Mr Brew said the increased capacity of the SuperSeaCat and competitive fares should also attract more car traffic.

Ferries to Belfast, Dublin, Heysham and Liverpool were included in the figures.
