Call to fine beach litter 'louts'

Danger sign on Port Soif
Two beaches were recently closed because of litter

Tougher measures are needed to combat beach "litter louts", a Guernsey deputy has said.

Two beaches on the island's west coast were recently temporarily closed after party-goers left them strewn with broken glass, metal and nails.

Deputy Barry Paint has called for wardens and special constables to patrol beaches and fine offenders.

The density of litter on the Channel Island's beaches was the third highest in a recent UK-wide survey.
