Messy weekend causes beach worry

Nails and broken glass were discovered at Port Soif
Efforts are being made to clamp down on litterbugs after a number of Guernsey's west coast beaches were overwhelmed with rubbish over the weekend.

Sixteen refuse sacks were collected from Cobo alone, and nails and broken glass were discovered at Port Soif. Cleaners spent hours tidying the mess.

The Environment Department is talking with the police about the problem.

Castel's Senior Constable, Dave Chester, has also urged beach users to take responsibility for their litter.
