P-plate proposal for new drivers
People who pass their driving test in Guernsey will have to display "probationary" plates on their vehicles if States proposals are approved.

The Environment Department is to recommend compulsory P-plates for the majority of drivers for a 12-month period after driving tests.

Members of the emergency services will be exempt.

Other restrictions in the consultation document, including a lower speed limit for new drivers, will not be proposed.

Newly-qualified drivers will not have to sit a second driving test after the probationary period, nor will they have passenger numbers restricted.

The States will vote on the issue later this month.
