There will be a sharp rise in the price of Guernsey milk from next month. The Commerce and Employment Department has confirmed the cost of a litre will go up by 18p from 2 December.
Commerce and Employment set up a Milk Price Review Panel in April and in September it recommended a 17p a litre increase from 70 to 87p.
Following a short period of consultation with milk retailers and Guernsey Farmers, the department has set the price at 88p.
Half litres will cost 49p, or 68p for organic milk.
These are fixed retail prices payable both for milk delivered to the doorstep and bought in shops.
