Deputy criticises recycling work
A Guernsey deputy is criticising how long it is taking for full-time waste separation to be introduced as part of the island's recycling efforts.

The Environment Department recently put a contract out to tender to operate a separation site at Longue Hougue.

Deputy Mark Dorey said he stressed the urgent need for a sorting facility at the States' debate in May last year.

He said action should have been taken sooner to find ways to increase the lifespan of Mont Cuet's landfill site.

The Environment Department said that some separation and recycling already took place at Mont Cuet.

The site has estimated eight years of landfill use left.
