Anger at delay on sewage decision
An environmental group says it is "unacceptable" that a States decision on a sewage treatment plant in Guernsey could be a year away.

The Public Services and Environmental Departments have published a report which outlines future technologies for waste disposal.

At the moment raw effluent is pumped out to sea at Belle Greve.

Surfers Against Sewage is concerned that no recommendations are likely for at least 12 months.

It is unacceptable in our view
Richard Hardy

It said the current system of disposing of sewage at sea will not be acceptable when EU legislation changes in 2008.

Campaigns director Richard Hardy said: "I think it's important to keep up the pressure on the States of Guernsey.

"The Green Paper is out, but it is slightly disappointing for us that it will be another 12 months before any recommendations are in place.

"We shall be putting pressure on the government to bring that forward. It is unacceptable in our view."
