Plans for a waste disposal incinerator have not been shelved |
Guernsey's Environment Minister is urging the States to make a firm decision on a proposed waste strategy "sooner rather than later". Politicians have agreed to spend 80m on a mass-burn plant at Longue Hougue.
But the project is on hold while a full review of waste disposal on the island is carried out. The results will be discussed in the House this month.
Environment Minister Bernard Flouquet said the government needed to "get on with the job in hand".
Mr Flouquet said: "If the States decide to act on the recommendations in the review report then the resolution to go ahead with the waste plant will need to be rescinded and we have to get on with the job in hand."
The report by the Waste to Energy Plant inquiry panel earlier this year concluded the scheme at Longue Hougue was the wrong choice for Guernsey.
It recommended taking longer to explore alternative technologies, and increasing recycling.
But earlier this week, Mr Flouquet said that, despite those recommendations, plans for a waste disposal incinerator have not been shelved.
