'Tough decisions' ahead on budget
A clear set of priorities is urgently needed before Guernsey States embarks on spending cuts, says a deputy.

Budgets are currently being tightened across departments as part of efforts to save money before tax reforms are made in 2008.

It is expected corporation tax will be abolished leading to a 48m shortfall in the States budget.

Francis Quin, Deputy Minister for the Home Department, says politicians will have to be brave.

He said: "We have got a bitter pill to swallow.

"Some of us will become unelectable because of the decision we will have to make, but if we make decisions on our delectability then we don't deserve to be doing the job we are doing.

"We have got to make hard and tough decisions and cross our fingers and hope that they're right."
