Minister warns on payments hike
Guernsey's social security minister is reinforcing her concerns about proposed increases in payments.

Deputy Mary Lowe has written to all States members showing how a rise in contributions could affect the self-employed and unemployed.

The letter shows a self-employed person who earns 20,000 a year would have to pay an extra 500 to Social Security.

The proposals come as Guernsey's States looks to fill the black hole created by changes to Corporation Tax in 2008.

Mrs Lowe's letter also shows that high earners would pay more per week than they would receive back for their pension.
