Pupils at a Guernsey Sunday School are being taught in a damp shed because an agreement over planning permission cannot be reached. The Vale Church would like to replace the shed with a summer house type building but says it is being held back by the Environment Committee.
Up to 30 youngsters study in the shed in the church garden off L'Abbaye Road.
The Environment Department claims it has offered to consider a number of alternative possible solutions.
Extra space
People's Warden John Bichard claims the shed is sited on a rubbish heap and it is time it was updated.
He says all the church needs is a little extra space but that it is unable to make any progress with the planners.
The Environment Department says the matter has been under discussion for a number of years and that during that period a number of applications, and repeat applications have been made, all for a prefabricated timber domestic building.
It says that in each case the department has carefully considered the application but has concluded the proposed structure would be inappropriate because of its design and the particular sensitivity of the site.
Mr Bichard says the next stage would be an appeal to the Royal Court. But he says the church cannot afford to go to litigation.
