Church plans medieval celebration
View of part of Guernsey
Guernsey declared itself independent from France in 1204
An old Guernsey church is to be turned into a medieval banqueting hall as part of the island's celebrations of its 800 years of independence from France.

The event on Thursday at the old church of St James is being held by la Comite de la Culture Guernesiaise.

Madrigals and bell ringers will provide entertainment and organisers hope diners will dress to suit the occasion.

A group from Normandy will entertain during the meal and lead traditional Celtic dancing after dinner.

It is 800 years since the signing of the Treaty of Rouen in 1204, which marked the start of the Channel Island's split from France and loyalty to the British Crown.
