Health boss rejects waiting claim
Guernsey's Health Minister has rejected claims the island's health service is failing the less well off.

Complaints have been made that people are waiting up to four months to see a consultant, but private appointments are more readily available.

Deputy Peter Roffey admits there may be a few exceptions but says, overall, the contract with the Medical Specialist Group has been successful.

He says the insurance scheme has eased the island's waiting list.

"Guernsey does have a two-tier health system. We have always had a two-tier health system, just like the UK and just about every other country," Mr Roffey said.

"What the insurance scheme brought in, the contract with the Medical Specialist Group, was a considerable easing of that situation by guaranteeing people will be seen, on a non-private basis, on an insured basis through the States, within eight weeks."
