Organisers of Guernsey's Liberation Day celebrations fear its relevance is not appreciated by younger generations. Spokesman Richard Haume thinks more should be done to let young islanders know the reason for the event, which marks the end of German occupation.
He warns future commemorations may be in danger of becoming parties rather than a mark of freedom.
"I think it's going to revert to more of a carnival than a nostalgic liberation atmosphere," he said.
