Incinerator firm raises concerns
Aerial view of the proposed new waste to energy plant
The panel said the proposed waste plant was too big
The company contracted to build an incinerator for Guernsey's waste fears delays will force up costs.

An independent panel which has looked into the island's waste disposal options is recommending the States should not proceed with the project.

About 80 tonnes of paper, cardboard and polythene is collected for recycling each week, but some politicians think that figure could be higher.

Waste firm Lurgi says if the project is postponed, building costs will rise.

Lurgi UK director David Porter, said: "The rising cost of materials should be considered since any hold up will only make the incinerator more expensive if it's eventually constructed."
