Guernsey pressed to sell Aurigny
Aurigny
Island air travel may be controlled in the future by a single authority
Channel Island airline Rockhopper has called for the sale of Aurigny by Guernsey States.

The States owns Aurigny, but it also has to regulate all the airlines which operate in the Bailiwick.

That has led to concerns that the dual responsibility puts new airlines off coming to the island.

Noel Hayes, managing director of Rockhopper, says the Channel Island needs a clear competition policy and licensing guidelines.

Resolve conflict

And he said landing slots at Gatwick would be protected without Aurigny being States owned.

Mr Hayes is also calling for airport charges to be capped as part of a 10-point plan to the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce.

Guernsey's Commerce and Employment Department is already in talks with its Jersey equivalent about creating a joint airline licensing authority.

The department believes that may be the best way to resolve the conflict of interest it is faced with.
