The national standard aims to encourage achievement |
Students at a Guernsey secondary school are being encouraged to make well-informed decisions about their health and well-being. An initiative to strengthen personal social education is under way at the Grammar School.
School manager Jackie Davies says both students and their parents are taking part in the scheme.
Members of staff are also undergoing training for the National Healthy Schools Standard (NHSS).
The aim of the NHSS, an initiative by the UK Health Development Agency, is to help schools become healthy and effective, providing an environment which is conducive to learning and encourages pupils to achieve.
Ms Davies said: "This week we had a drugs awareness evening for our parents.
"They were able to come in and listen to a speaker from Drug Concern, which is an expert in the field, talking about drugs awareness and the local situation in Guernsey."
