Contestants try to fly homemade contraptions to the harbour mouth |
Guernsey's Harbour Carnival is being held on a Sunday for the first time. The Round Table, which organises the charity event at Victoria Marina, is hoping the new Sunday opening laws will give the occasion a special boost.
The date is chosen so that a long evening coincides with a high tide, as most of the events are waterborne.
The highlight of Sunday's event will be the man-powered flight race in which people try to fly homemade contraptions as far as the harbour mouth.
There is also a dry land rowing event, a tug of war across the pier heads with the losing team taking an early bath, and the traditional ladies' dinghy race involving six girls in a boat and a lot of water.
