 Sewage levels at are above EU recommended guide levels |
New test results have revealed two of Guernsey's east coast beaches are polluted with sewage. Effluent released into the channel of water between Guernsey and Herm was found at both Havelet and Fermain.
Two million gallons of raw sewage a day is being pumped into the sea, while work is carried out on repairing the mains at Glategny Esplanade.
Regular monitoring of water quality is being carried out by the Environmental Health Department.
Sewage levels at both Havelet Bay and Fermain Bay were above recommended European Union guide levels when the latest tests were carried out on Monday.
Tides and weather are also contributing to the spread of the pollution.
