People in Guernsey who want to have a beach barbecue are being reminded they have to get permission first. Procedures are in place to ensure the island's environment is not harmed by reckless behaviour.
In general applications are not refused, but the final say is from the douzaine.
Beach barbecues are only allowed on the island's North and West coast beaches, but not on the South or East coasts, from Soldiers Bay to Pleinmont.
In the first instance an application has to be made to Guernsey's Environment department, if the barbecue is for less than 50 people.
Then the request is put before the douzaine of the parish where the barbecue is to be held.
Barbecues expected to be attended by more than 50 people are considered to be beach events and organisers have to apply to the Environment Department for permission.
