Work has started in Guernsey on a 17.5m project to refurbish and extend the Royal Court for the States. The States decided to develop the site in St Peter Port to provide modern accommodation for the administration of justice in the Bailiwick.
The project involves a mix of refurbishment and new build, as well as restoration of the listed building.
Facilities will include more criminal and magistrate courts, custody and probation suites and more office space.
Consultancy firm TPS Schal is to manage the project, which is due to be completed in January 2006.
The Bailiff and senior politicians recently attended the blessing of a foundation stone to mark the start of construction.
