The repairs to the church have taken more than six months
Volunteer work to repair a Guernsey church has been completed.

Guernsey Wesley Church closed in December 2003 after a strange smell in the building led to the discovery of dry rot.

Teams of volunteers have been carrying out the extensive repair work to the church building.

Minister Steven Robinson said once the floorboards and carpets were taken up, the problem turned out to be much bigger than expected.

He said: "We got some professional advice and discovered that not only would we have to take out some of the rot, we had to hack out a large amount of the plaster - up to 1m in height all the way around one side.

"We had another look and had to do the other side as well, so the job just grew and grew."
