Audit decision defended
Office workers
The National Audit Office has been granted an 18-month contract
The decision to commission a UK government department to help Guernsey set up two of its new States Committees is being defended.

Douzenier Sue Ephgrave says she sees advantages in bringing in expertise from outside.

From early next year the National Audit Office will offer help and advice on the establishment of a Public Accounts Committee and a Scrutiny Committee.

Douzenier Ephgrave says she believes it is a good idea.

"I think it makes sense because this is all going to be so new to us next year," she said.

"None of us really knows where we are going to fit in and obviously if we can get off on a good footing from the beginning it's going to save a lot of time and lot of work later on."

The National Audit Office has been granted an 18-month contract which will start in January 2004.
