The former Bosnian Serb leader, Radovan Karadzic, has boycotted the start of his trial at the war crimes tribunal in the Hague.
Karadzic, who is representing himself, refused to appear. He said he needs more time to prepare answers to the allegations against him.
He denies charges of genocide and crimes against humanity during the Bosnian War in the early 1990s.
Allan Little reports.
