Film that helped bring down Berlin Wall

The 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall is in November, but for many the process began a month earlier with a series of anti-Communist demonstrations in Leipzig.

On the 9th October 1989, thousands of people in the east German city defied the authorities and took to the streets. One dissident filmed the event, expecting to record a massacre.

But the authorities allowed the protest to proceed, and the smuggled footage proved the regime's weaknesses and spurred on activists around the country.
