Central Italy struck by earthquake

An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale has struck central Italy, with its epicentre about 55 miles north east of Rome.

At least 27 people have been killed and there are reports of damage to thousands of homes and buildings in the medieval city of l'Aquila.
