States set for increased scrutiny
States of Jersey
Two shadow scrutiny panels are being set up in the States
States members in Jersey are being asked to take part in trial scrutiny panels.

Jersey's government has agreed to set up the scrutiny system which will allow politicians to check decisions made by the executive.

They will have the power to demand that documents and witnesses attend hearings in reviewing policy.

Two shadow scrutiny panels will be set up next month and States members are being asked to put themselves forward as members.

During the trials, States members will be trained in scrutiny functions which it is estimated will cost taxpayers 1.5m to implement.
