Group working 'for common goals'
Jersey States
The group meets once a fortnight
A Jersey Senator says the fortnightly meetings of a group of like-minded politicians is not an attempt to form a political party.

The group was instrumental in defeating plans from the Housing Committee to sell off a house to raise almost 300,000.

Senator Ted Vibert said the 17-strong body of politicians is working for a series of common goals in the States.

He says it is more of a scrutiny committee than a political party.

'Pressure group'

"So far it's been extremely successful," said Senator Vibert.

"That doesn't mean to say we put any pressure on anybody.

"We're providing the pressure, we're the pressure group who are pushing down on the establishment to make them change their position."

Senator Vibert says there is a feeling among members who are not on major committees that they are not being informed about government business.

The group meets once a fortnight.
