Cross mystery puzzles garden team
The garden at Chateau La Chaire Hotel at Rozel
The garden was designed by Samuel Curtis
A team restoring a Victorian garden in Jersey is appealing to islanders to help find a missing piece of a monument.

Work has started at the Chateau La Chaire gardens in Rozel, which have been described as among the most important in Europe.

A BBC2 film crew is in the island to make a programme about the site.

But botanist Tony Russel say they are trying to find the missing part of a cross.

"We have found the top part of the cross in one of the local residents' gardens, but we are putting a plea out to everyone in the island if they know where the upright part of the cross is.

"If we can find that, we can restore the cross to its original location."

The garden will feature in the next BBC series of Hidden Gardens and the production team is also asking islanders for their memories of the place.
