Curb on rural building
Building in rural areas in Guernsey is set to become more difficult.

The Island Development Committee's (IDC) draft Rural Area Plan, unveiled on Thursday, emphasises the conservation and enhancement of green areas.

Faith Rose, the committee's Forward Planning Manager, said: "On the whole, we are not likely to see new development.

"We can still accommodate businesses that need to expand or households that need an extra bedroom, providing they don't affect the environment unduly.

"But we are not expecting to see major rural developments in the rural area."

Views sought

The IDC has involved the public all along in the review process.

They held a series of consultation exercises last October.

Now islanders can look at the revised plan and put their views to an independent planning inspector.

If the States approve the propsals they will become policy for five years.
