jersey generic
Deputy Bob Hill wants the period reduced from 10 to six years
A proposal to lower the number of years Jersey-born people have to wait before they get housing qualifications has been rejected in the States.

Deputy Bob Hill's plans were defeated by 39 votes to four against on Tuesday.

Deputy Hill wanted Jersey-born people to wait for six years instead of 10.

He said the present system is not fair on children whose parents decide to move the family away from the island.

'Bad timing'

It caused a lengthy debate among members but although many thought there was some merit in the plans most agreed with Policy and Resources president Senator Frank Walker

Deputy Hill said it was "bad timing" in light of Policy and Resources' proposed migration policy but he was pleased the States had debated the issue.
