Basking Sharks are one of a variety of mammals often seen |
People in Guernsey are being asked to keep a look out for sea mammals in Bailiwick waters. Whales, seals, dolphins and even basking sharks can be seen in the waters around the island.
La Societe Guernesiaise is asking members of the public to look out for marine mammals and report any sightings.
La Societe is collecting the information to build a database for future research.
The head of La Societe's marine section, Martin Gavet, said it is not unusual to see a variety of mammals, particularly dolphins, at this time of year.
However, he said although they make a fantastic sight, people should not attempt to get near them.
