Water relay closes Games
Families watch the opening ceremony
A firework display provided a finale to the Island Games
The curtain finally came down on the 2003 Island Games on Friday with the closing ceremony.

And Jersey finished the games second in the medal table, behind Guernsey.

Jersey won a total of 115 medals, including 37 gold medals.

As with the opening ceremony, water once again played an integral part in the proceedings.

Shortly after 2000 BST on Friday, water was collected from the fountain at the Model Yacht Pond on the Castle Emplacement in the official Island Games water container.

A relay of runners took the vessel to Beau Sejour for the ceremony.

Informal ceremony

The relay travelled along the Esplanades to the Weighbridge, Richmond Corner, the Halfway, the Bouet, Rouge Rue and Amherst before arriving at Beau Sejour at 2100 BST.

The closing ceremony was short and informal and took place on the football pitch next to Beau Sejour.

The International Island Games Association flag was taken down and handed to the host of the 2005 Games, the Shetlands.

The Games was then officially closed by Deputy Peter Sirrett, with a firework display rounding off proceedings.
