Elderly raise their concerns
Elderly person
Jersey Senior Citizens Association has more than 700 members
Jersey's Senior Citizens Association claims many of the island's politicians are "totally unaware" of the suffering experienced by elderly people in the island.

It is urging its members to raise their concerns with two committee presidents at a meeting in St Brelade on Thursday.

Association chairperson Daphne Minihane said many senior citizens were anxious about the proposed "user pays" policy.

The "user pays" charges are being proposed as the States battles to balance its budget, which is set to go 19m into the red next year.

The association has more than 700 members and often invites politicians to speak on issues such as welfare, housing and health.

Mrs Minihane said senior citizens were also concerned over the possible withdrawal, or reduction, of state benefits.

The association is due to meet Housing president Deputy Terry Le Main and Health and Social Services president Senator Stuart Syvret to ask questions about its concerns.
