Many new handsets can take photographs |
Mobile phones have been banned from a number of swimming pools in Jersey. The ban has been brought in because some mobiles have cameras in them and there is concern that photographs could be taken of children.
The ban applies to the States-run swimming pools at Fort Regent, Les Quennevais and the Langford pool at Mont Nichole school.
The Deputy Director of Education, Sport and Culture, Vic Borgoise, said the move was an extension of the existing ban on normal cameras to ensure photographs were not taken of children.
If people want to use cameras at the pools, they will need to get special permission.
The head coach of Jersey's AIB Tigers swimming club, Paul du Feu, welcomed the ban and said clubs had kept tight control on cameras over the last few years.
